Day 10 update

Earlier this month, On Shoulders of Giants (OSOG), a team of four endurance sport enthusiasts set out on a race across the Atlantic as part of Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge 2020. They are raising money for the My Name’5 Doddie and Pursuing Independent Paths charities. Arca Blanca is their data science partner and we thought we would take the opportunity to update you on the team’s progress.

10 days into the race, OSOG are currently in 2nd place in their race class (fours) and 3rd overall. They have 1,873 nautical miles to go until they reach their destination in Antigua.

The team trained for nearly 2 years for this race and earlier this year they approached Arca Blanca to help them plan their route and gain insights from wind data and how they can leverage that in the race.

Arca Blanca’s data science team have been crunching historic climatology data from the last 20 years and race performance data from the last few years. We have created a set of route options for OSOG that will allow them to adapt their route as weather conditions change.

We are glad to see that the insights we have given the team are useful and are looking forward to seeing their progress in the following weeks.
